Syncing notes between Readwise and Google Notebook LM

In this guide, we will explore the syncing of notes between Readwise and Google LM. Before I do initial testing of the process, I wonder if it’s more about being able to easily move notes between the two, given the Google LM limit of 50 notes.

Why don’t you join me and see how it will work?

Why would you want to synchronise your notes between Readwise and Notebook LM?

I think this is a really important question to consider, as Google LM has a limit of 50 notes and is, in many ways, a traditional note-taking application. It is not, on its own, really suitable for a Personal Knowledge Management system.

For me, Google LM is the first Large Language Model teaching assistant. It can take 50 notes on a subject you want to learn, help summarise the material for you, and allow you to ask questions. It can even generate a two-person podcast. I have linked to my post on creating a podcast from Google LM.

Readwise acts as a library of all the digital highlights and notes you have made from web articles, Tweets, e-books, and even YouTube videos. Combining these two tools could create a super-powered personal teaching assistant.

How to synchronise Readwise With Notebook LM?

In this section, I’ll take you through the steps for synchronising Readwise with NotebookLM.

  1. Go to the Readwise website
  2. Go to the Connect and Sync page
  3. Click on the connect button
  4. You will need to sign on to your Google account
  5. Select the appropriate option
  6. Click start syncing with Google docs

As I routinely synced with Obsidian, I decided to sync only the notes I had highlighted during the last week.

You can then insert the Readwise notes saved to Google Docs during the syncing process into a Notebook LM notebook.

Conclusion

You should now know why synchronising notes between Readwise and Google Notebook LM works.

I do wonder how helpful it will be when creating a Google notebook LM, which currently has a limit of 50 notes. Especially if you have thousands of Readwise notes like mine, and I don’t think that is unusual.

I wonder if it would be worth saving it to one Google Doc, but that will be a large file, and you have to wonder how well Google Notebook LM will cope with this.

But I can see the benefit of having the Gemini Large Language Model language access to your notes. I recently wrote about the Smart Connections plug-in in Obsidian. I will include links to those posts in the further reading section.
