Review of Capitalism Lab 2021

Today I’m reviewing Capitalism Lab, a business management game. Please keep reading to find out why it is the best business management game I have ever played.

What is Capitalism Lab?

Capitalism Lab is a business management game with its own simulated economy and rival companies. It is a sandbox that allows you to run a company in multiple sectors, from farming to computing.

At the time of writing, the following DLCs have been released for Capitalism Lab.

Capitalism Lab starting a new game

Capitalism Lab has eight tutorial games. It has been a while since I last played the tutorials. However, I would recommend that new players play the tutorial first due to the game’s steep learning curve.

Capitalism Lab also comes with many scenarios with adjustable difficulty levels. Each DLC, besides the banking and finance DLC, will provide several scenarios. The game also has a couple of challenge modes available to play.

As well as the other game options. You can create a custom game that allows you to define your own rules for the game by setting and adjusting the starting values of in-game variables. Some of the game rules can also be changed. This is the game mode I use while playing Capitalism Lab.

Graphics & Sound in Capitalism Lab

The graphics are best described as being functional but dated. The game graphics are basically the same as those in Capitalism 2. With a few changes being made to the graphics and user interface over the years.

I have found that if I don’t play Capitalism Lab for a while. It takes me a little while to get used to the game User Interface again. I would say it is quirky, more than difficult to use.

The sound effects, like the graphics, are functional. I’m not a great fan of the music and normally turn it off when I’m playing.

Gameplay

As I mentioned earlier in the review. Capitalism Lab allows you to build a company by setting up a number of businesses which Include the following.

  • Logging company. Cut down trees. Produces wood. Which can be used in several industries. Such as making furniture
  • Mining. The game allows you to mine many resources such as gold, silicon, coal, iron, etc.
  • Farming. Raise livestock, or grow some crops.
  • Manufacturing. Allows the manufacturing of various goods, including semi-products. A semi-product is an item that can be used in another manufacturing process.
  • Wholesaling. Build warehouses to sell goods produced by your own company or other companies.
  • Retail. The selling of goods produced either by yourself, or other companies, or imported goods
  • R&D (Rsearch&Development. Improve the type of goods you can manufacture.
  • Media companies. Run your own newspaper, radio station, or television company
  • Land & Real Estate. Make money from land or real estate, including property rental.

As you can imagine, Capitalism Lab has a complex supply chain from raw goods to consumer products that can be sold to customers in a retail business. Your company can buy or sell goods from other companies meaning that you don’t need to be involved in the whole supply chain. Capitalism Lab provides very good in-game documentation detailing the supply chain.

One of my favourite aspects of Capitalism Lab is that the game has little micromanagement, especially when you delegate tasks to other directors within your company.
