Readwise was initially designed to be the home of your digital notes, and it fills this role very well.
But that isn’t its biggest strength if you take a lot of notes in digital form and use a supported personal knowledge management application or note taker. You should consider subscribing to Readwise now. Keep reading to find out why
What is Readwise
Readwise is an application as a depository of your digital notes collected from various sources, including Kindle, Pocket, Instapaper and Reader. Also developed by Readwise and is currently in open Beta development.
And it isn’t just web articles. You can connect it to Snipd to capture notes from podcasts and even Twitter, at least at the time of writing.
Each day you can review a selection of notes in what the application calls the Readwise Daily Review. The regurgitation of notes is supposed to help you remember what you learn.
The application even tries to gamify it by tracking how many days you have read your daily notes and even has a league table.
And all of this is great, but I doubt it would have been enough for me to subscribe on its own.
Readwise is a distributor of your notes to other applications
Readwise isn’t just a depository of your notes. It can also share and export them to popular note-taking and personal knowledge management applications, including Obsidian, Notion, Logseq and Roam.
Even if your note-taking application isn’t supported, you can export from Readwise into Markdown or CSV (Comma Separated Variable) files if a supported format could be imported into the note-taking or Personal Knowledge Management application you are using.
Readwise Price
The biggest hurdle I had to overcome was the cost of $7.99 seemed like a lot of money at first. After a few days of trying Readwise, I realised that the price was worth it as it streamlined the process of getting my digital notes into Obsidian. You can find the current prices for Readwise here.
Once into Obsidian, it is down to me to prioritise and process those notes, something I need to improve. I might look at that in another article.
