Netflix review 2021

I have been using Netflix for several years. This review is based on my experiences of using the Netflix streaming service during the last few months. I haven’t been paid to write this review. As I live in the UK, this review is based on my experiences of using the service here in the UK.

What is Netflix

Netflix is a streaming service with an extensive library of movies and television programmes for you to watch. The content available to you will depend on where you live. The available content changes over time as content is added and removed from the library.

Currently, in the UK, Netflix is available in three different packages described below.

PackageDescription
Package 1 costs £5.99 a monthAllows you to stream to one device at a time, and the content is only available in standard definition.
Package 2 costs £9.99 a month.Allows you to stream to devices simultaneously with content now available in standard definition & high definition
Package 3 costs £13.99 a month. It allows you to stream to four devices simultaneously with content available in standard definition, high definition & Ultra High Definition, as well as HDR.

Netflix own content

The Netflix library is increasingly made up of content that Netflix has produced as a countermeasure to losing the content created by other broadcast companies. Last month, Netflix lost the rights to StarTrek Discovery in most regions outside the United States.

Netflix recommendations

I wanted to highlight the Netflix recommendation system, which has a lot of similarities to the recommendation service used by Spotify. For me, it is what gives these services a competitive advantage over their rivals.

As you watch content on Netflix, you can rate them by giving them either a thumbs up if you enjoyed it or a thumbs down if you didn’t. Netflix then analyses these ratings to recommend content you are likely to enjoy. It even shows the percentage of the potential match to what you would enjoy watching.

Like Spotify recommendations, it isn’t 100% accurate, but it gives it a good indication, and over time, it becomes more accurate.
