Managing fields in a Notion database

In this guide, I will take you through the process of updating and editing a field in a Notion database. This guide builds on the guide to Notion data types, which I recommend you read before continuing with this guide. At the end of this guide, you should be able to add and edit a field contained within a Notion database.

Adding a field to a Notion database

You can add a field in most database views by clicking on the plus (+) sign to add a new column.

A new field can also be added to the database by either opening an existing record within the database or adding a new record. The current fields displayed at the top of the page and an add parameter option can be found after the last field

Editing a Notion database field

Once a field has been added to a database, it is possible to change the data type for the field. Depending on the data type you select, you might be able to modify the field further, such as the format of the data contained within a date field.

Conclusion

You should now be able to add and edit a field in a Notion database. I would also recommend that you read our guide to Notion database views.
