Football manager player attributes

One of the key inputs into the algorithms used by the football manager will be the player attributes. I’m sure other data is used, but it’s the information we have to hand after scouting a player.

The player attributes are a critical factor in the player star rating I have discussed in a previous article. This article will share how I use this important information I look for when I consider buying or selling a player.

What are football manager player attributes

Every player in Football Manager has some attributes, be they real players or players generated by the game. Some of these attributes could be hidden from Football Manager players.

This article is only concerned with the attributes we can see. In most cases, you will only be able to see the player attributes with any accuracy once the player has been scouted. You can learn more about scouting in our guide to scouting in Football Manager.

How I use player attributes to make decisions in Football Manager

Football Manager helps you consider the essential attributes in the position(s) you are planning to use the player in by allowing you to select the position you want them to play. The key attributes are shown in green, and other useful attributes to consider are highlighted in blue.

I also consider other attributes that I think might be useful for the role. For example, my sides often play with a high line, so centre backs with some pace would be considering factor if the other attributes were similar.

Player attributes range from 1 to 20, and in most cases, higher is better, but this isn’t always the case. For example, you don’t want goalkeepers with high eccentricity.
