Football Manager 2023 scouting changes

A change has been made to how scouting works in Football Manager 2023 with the introduction of recruitment focuses. The rest of the scouting system has largely remained unchanged, and you can find out more in our Football manager scouting guide.

Recruitment focuses

Recruitment focuses can be set up either by your head scout or yourself to search for players who meet specific criteria such as the player’s position, role, or even scout-specific countries.

Creating a focus

This step-by-step process will allow you to create your recruitment focuses.

  1. Open the scouting screen and open the recruitment focus tab
  2. Click on create recruitment focus towards the top left of the screen
  3. If you have already defined your formation, it defaults to that tactic allowing you to look for players that match that tactic by clicking any position from tactic
  4. If you are looking for a player for a specific position, click the position
  5. Select the role if you need to
  6. Select the transfer type
  7. Select the minimum and potential ability if required
  8. Specify the ages if required
  9. Specify the areas
  10. To finish, click on confirm
Specifying your recritment focus in Football manager

The scouting department will look for players that match the focus and fully scout any players they identify as matching those focuses. This means that players are fully scouted by the time you receive the report on that player.

The scouting department will recommend players matching the recruitment focus and any player who closely fits your requirements. Helpful if no player is an exact match or if you don’t like the look of any players that are an exact match

Conclusion

You can still scout individual players as before, and when doing so, you can specify how long the scouting should last. As I stated in the introduction, it is a modification of the Football Manager 2022 scouting system.
