My review of Deezer was written during a free month’s trial of Deezer. This review is based on my experience of using Deezer on Windows and Android.
Deezer supported sound quality
Deezer supports HiFi music quality streaming using lossless audio compression. The application also supports lower quality audio streams for when you are on the move. You can find out more in our introduction to digital musical formats.
As with other music streaming services, the default audio quality is set to standard and will need to be changed to your music in the highest quality.
Music discovery in Deezer
I found Deezer to be very good at helping me discover new music. The recommendations approve over time as the algorithm learns more about your musical tastes. As you like the tracks, you enjoy.
On Monday, a playlist is updated with recommended tracks. On Friday, a new music recommendations playlist is refreshed. While on Sunday you have a playlist of easy listening.
Deezer also provides a selection of playlists for different styles of music but offers less choice than some of the other music streaming services I have recently used.
What makes Deezer unique compared to other music streaming services I have tried is flow. Flow is a continuous music stream based on the tunes, playlists, artists and albums you have liked. You can even specify a mood within flow, and Deezer will select tracks based on your mood. I liked the neutral flow, but it’s an excellent idea.
User Interface
My biggest problem with the Deezer application for Windows is the User Interface is that it is sparse. It is functional, but I find it challenging to navigate at times. In contrast, the user interface for the Android app is excellent. So it will come down to what devices you mainly listen to music on. It is a shame that there is no consistency in design in the UI between platforms.
Importing of playlists from other streaming services
The windows app under your account offers import functionality provided by a third party. I was able to use this service to import playlists from Spotify.
Deezer review 2022
Summary
Deezer lets itself down with the user interface design of the Windows application. People who mainly stream music on a Windows computer might want to look elsewhere, but it’s worth considering if you primarily use Android. Music discovery is good, and all tracks are available in CD-quality lossless audio format.
