Capitalism Lab update 8.1.05 brought services to the Capitalism Lab game for the first time. You will need the Experimental DLC and the Real World Mod (Service edition V12.0) to access the service business within the game. You can find out more about the Experimental DLC in our Capitalism Lab experimental DLC article.
In this guide, I will walk you through the process of creating a custom game with services. I will then take you through the steps of creating a new service company. I will then finish by giving my thoughts on the new gameplay.
Starting a new capitalism Lab game with services
The new services are currently off by default. You will need to follow these four steps to turn services on.
- Open Capitalism Lab and ensure experimental DLC is turned on
- Open the mod menu
- The real-world mod service edition will appear to be greyed out; double click to download
- Once it has been downloaded, double-click the mod again to activate
- Start new game
- Then custom game from the new menu
- Go to the DLC tag and turn on the services firm
- Make any other changes to the game and press start
Creating a services company in Capitalism Lab DLC
- Click on the build menu, which is the top icon in the left-hand menu
- Select the service business you want to create
- Open the business to layout the functional units within the company
- Click on setup production
Problems I encountered setting up services in Capitalism Lab
It took me a while to set up as I already had an earlier version of the Real World mod installed. I tried to install the mod manually, but Firefox displayed a warning suggesting that the file connection wasn’t secure.
I removed all my mods and reinstalled the latest version of the game. So I wouldn’t expect an issue for anyone who doesn’t already use mods with Capitalism Lab.
First thoughts
So I started a new game, and once I created a service. It currently needs to be paired with a mod because Capitalism Lab doesn’t yet have any services of its own. While the Real World mod does provide services, it offers a wide range of service industries for your companies to manage.
It is going to be interesting to see how this develops.
