Guide to using the stock and bond market in Capitalism Lab DLC with the Finance & Banking DLC to make money for your company.
The Stock market
All games of Capitalism Lab will have a local stock market made up of some of the corporations you are competing with inside the game. You can buy shares in any company listed on the stock market, as can your competitors. If you buy enough shares, you can even take over their business and run it as either a subsidiary or merge the company with your own.
Your corporation can also be listed on the stock market. Some game settings will start the game with your company listed on the local stock market. Your competitors can purchase shares in your company once you are listed.
Anyone who owns shares in a company can make money by selling the shares later in the game. Of course, you will need to sell your shares for more money than you purchased them for to make a profit. You can also make money by owning shares in a company that pays out some of its profits in dividends.
Depending on your game setup, an international stock market may also be available. The international stock market contains companies whose shares you can purchase with you to profit from those shares.
The Bond market
The bond market allows you to buy the following types of bonds
- Treasury bond
- Corporation bonds
- Municipal Bonds
All bonds have a paper value which will be paid back to the holder once the bond is repaid. The bondholder will also receive an interest payment from the bond issuer over the lifetime of the loan.
As a corporation, issuing bonds is one of the ways you can raise money, but don’t forget that you will need to pay out money over the lifetime of the bond and pay back the money you borrowed with the bond.
