I like strategy and business games, and when I came across big ambitions on Steam early access, I had to try it. This isn’t a full review as the game is currently available on early release on Steam, meaning that it is still in beta development and is likely to change before the final release. Read on to find out if I thought it was any good.
What type of game is Big Ambition?
Big Ambition is a life/business simulation sandbox where you can run and build your business empire. The game currently only allows you to play in one city New York. Still, the developer hopes to add London and Paris to the game before the game goes out of early release.
While it is a sandbox game at heart, it does have a story mode. It also acts as a tutorial within the game. The story has your uncle taking you through the process of building your business empire. When I first started playing the game, I thought the story mode tutorial could have held your hand more than it did. Overall, I think it works reasonably well.
There is a range of different business types you can set up, from gift shops to high-end fashion stores. You can choose the store location, hire people and even set the price.
Or you could just decide to live as an employee and just look to explore the city.
At the start of the game, your character will likely need to be more hands-on in running the business, such as serving the customers or topping up the stock. But as your business becomes more streamlined, you can employ people and automate the processes. Freeing up your time to do other things, such as starting up a new company
Big ambitions graphics & Sounds
The graphics are isometric, and I think they look pretty good for this type of game.
You control your player character by using the mouse’s left button to click where you want him to go, making it fun when you cross the road. Thankfully your character cannot be run over.
While driving is controlled with the WASD keys, which makes sense as I think driving in the same way as you control your character would be very frustrating. In fact, WASD could be the better way to control your character.
Conclusion
I’m not sure how much replay appeal it has, but it has potential. It will be interesting to see how it develops in the long run. I have included a link to the developer’s road map.
