Automate.io was an application that allowed you to set up automation across various applications. Automate.io has been closed with support to existing customers being phased out so that the team who worked on developing Automate.io can work on Notion.
I have never used Automate.io, but I have limited experience using IFTTT, a similar application, and I use Notion daily. So without due, let’s start speculating.
Notion automation ideas
Automate.io was an application that allows you to automate a process, for example, like a track in Spotify and add the track details to an Excel Spreadsheet.
Notion is marketed as the central point in an individual, team or organisation information and task management system. If Notion is to be the central hub of a productivity and communication hub. The application must develop functionality to share and synchronise data with other applications. Embedding applications within Notion like you can currently do is not enough on its own.
Even individuals who use Notion as the hub application within their task management system would like to synchronise with other popular applications. Such as Google calendar synchronisation, which Notion did announce at the 2022 block-by-block event. Hopefully, I will be able to synchronise my Notion task database with my Google calendar to time block my tasks in my calendar.
Another helpful automation would be the ability to define a repeatable task in a task management database and create a new task following a specified rule once the current task has been marked as complete. Users shouldn’t have to use workarounds or have to remember to set up repetitive tasks.
In the longer term, it would be beneficial if you could synchronise or interact with Microsoft Office or Google Office suite applications.
Conclusion
I would love to hear what future developments you would like to see in Notion.
