Amazon Fire TV Cube review 2021

I have been using for the last month or so. It was purchased by myself for personal use. This review is an honest appraisal of what I have personally experienced using the Amazon Fire TV Cube over the last few months.

The Amazon Fire TV Cube

Amazon produces a range of Fire TV sticks, with the Amazon Fire TV Cube being the premium product in the range.

The Amazon Fire TV Cube supports screen resolution up to 4K and the following HDR formats.

  • HDR10
  • HDR10+
  • Dolby Vision

The Fire TV Cube also supports the following audio formats.

  • Dolby Atmos
  • Dolby Digital Plus
  • 2 channel stereo

You can connect the Amazon Fire TV Cube to your network using either Ethernet or WiFi connection.

The Fire TV Cube also comes with the Alexa personal assistant built-in.

Amazon Fire TV Cube also comes with several applications installed including.

  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Netflix
  • Disney Plus

For those of us living in the UK, it also comes with.

  • BBC Iplayer
  • ITV Hub
  • All 4
  • My 5

A range of other streaming services is also available for download, including the Apple TV, Brit Box and Plex.

The AmazonFire TV home screen

Amazon Fire TV Home Screen

At the top of the home page is a banner section currently used to advertise upcoming programmes on Amazon and other streaming services.

Below is the menu section, which you can use to access the live and search screens. The menu also contains space for your applications and the applications which appear. You can change the application and the order in which they appear.

Below the menu, on the home page, you will see recommendations. These recommendations are not just from Amazon Prime but most other applications. This is a welcome move by Amazon, and it does improve your own experience of using the Amazon Fire TV Cube. The only real downside is the advertising which appears on the home page.

Summary

Support for all the main streaming services here in the UK where I’m based. The user interface is well designed and very responsive. While the Amazon Firestick is Amazon centric, it is nice to see that it includes recommendations from non-Amazon services, including Netflix, Disney Plus and BBC IPlayer. The only real issue is the price. The retail price appears to be £109 in the UK at the moment.
