A Review Of Amazon Photos In 2021

Today I’m reviewing Amazon photos which I have installed on both my mobile phone and my Windows PC. I have been using Amazon Photos for the last month or so.

If you have an Amazon Prime account, it is certainly worth considering because it is free, and the online storage of all photos doesn’t count towards the basic usage allowance of 5Gb. If you don’t have an Amazon Prime account, I would recommend that you look elsewhere because you would have to pay for the service.

In the review, I will consider both the Android app installed on my Samsung Galaxy S9 mobile phone and the Windows app running on my PC.

The Amazon Photo App On Android

I imagine that you like me take most photos on your mobile phone. To keep my photos safe, I want any photo application with online storage to store my photos on the web as soon as it can. Therefore, I was disappointed with how awkward I found the process of changing my phone settings to let the Amazon photo app upload my photos even though I was following the in-app steps. I did manage to get it working in the end, but I’m not convinced it was due to the in-app instructions.

The app provides some manual tools for the editing of photos, but I was disappointed with the lack of tools such as red-eye removal and autofocus. Beneficial functionality if your photography skills are as basic as my own point and click.

The Amazon Photo app also allows related photos to be stored in albums. It also has a family vault that will enable you to share photos with five other people, either family members or friends. Other members of the family fault get an Amazon photo account with free photo storage and 5Gb of storage space. Which I think is a pretty good deal.

The Amazon Photo App On Windows

The application enables photos and other files such as videos to be backed up from the specified folders on the Windows device.

It also allows you to download photos and other files from the Amazon photo online storage, allowing you to store photos both locally on your PC and online.

I have noticed that, at times, the windows app recommends photos may be due to them being taken on the same day a year ago. Clicking those photos will open them in the windows application. While all other images you see will open the photo on the Amazon photo web app. I even tried downloading all the photos to my PC, and this appears not to be a factor.

The web app offers the same functionality that I encounter on the Android application. Which I find disappointing.

Summary

As I stated at the start of the review Amazon Photos is worth considering if you are Amazon Prime especially if the ability to share photos with other family members interests you.

As I mentioned in the view that I was a bit disappointed by the fact that the in-app instructions on how to set up weren’t as clear as I think they should have been.

I was also a bit disappointed with the lack of some functionality such as a red-eye tool.

Will I continue using it? I’m not sure I will continue to use Amazon Photos once I have published this review. It works fine, but there are better alternatives out there.
