A Beginners Guide to Internet streaming

In today’s beginner’s guide, I will list some of the most popular streaming services available on the Internet.

I have personally used these services and am happy to recommend them to you.

Audio streaming services

The list below is for the streaming of audio media, including music, podcast and radio. You might also be interested in our round-up of musical streaming services.

  • Spotify. A streaming service for music and podcasts. You can read my review for further details.
  • Amazon Music. If you are an Amazon prime customer, it includes 2 million tracks for free. You can read my review for further information.
  • BBC Sounds. Can be used to access BBC radio stations here in the UK and listen to podcasts produced by the BBC.

Video streaming services

The list below includes video streaming services and tv catch-up services. You can learn more about streaming TV in our guide to Internet TV.

  • Netflix. A film and television streaming service. You can read our Netflix review.
  • Amazon Prime Video. A film, television, and live sports streaming service. Free to Amazon prime subscribers.
  • Disney +. A film and television streaming service. Home to Disney, Star Wars and Marvel content.
  • BBC Iplayer. The catch-up and tv streaming series from the BBC. Requires a TV licence to view
  • ITV Hub. ITV catch-up service.
  • All 4. Channel 4 catch-up service.
  • My5. Channel 5 catch-up service.
  • Now TV. A streaming service allows non-Sky customers to access Sky programming, including sports and films. Now TV review.
  • Brit Box. A streaming service providing classic British programming,
  • BT Sport. A streaming service for BT Sport programming.
  • Sky Go. A streaming service for sky customers. Due to trees impacting my satellite feed, I sometimes used this service as a sky customer.

Equipment

Applications for all these streaming services will be available for your mobile phone or tablet in the relevant app store for that device.

Most television available today can be connected to your homework and include applications for many of the services listed in this guide. This type of television is known as a smart TV.

You can also purchase a streaming services box which you can plug into your TV to access these services if required.
