Earlier this year, I bought myself a pair of new headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM5. I have been using them for a few months now, and this review is based on my experiences of using them.
I have used them with Amazon Music, Tidal, and Plexamp. I have used the headphone cable to listen to music played on my computer via the iFi DAC. I have also listened to audio via Bluetooth from my mobile phone and television. This review is based on my experiences of using them up to this point.
Sony WH-1000XM5 Features
The Sony WH-1000XM5, to me, appears to be designed to be used with mobile devices such as mobile phones or tablets. Still, you can also connect the headphones to devices by the provided earphone cable.
Connected by the earphone cable is still the best way to listen to music with headphones. Through playback from Bluetooth is now almost as good. When I initially tried them, I was surprised with how good they were compared to my last pair of headphones, which were a set of Mpow headphones.

Sony WH-1000XM5 Sound quality
The sound quality is excellent, and compared to my last set of headphones, which were considerably cheaper and are now a few years old, it was astonishing. I could hear the deep lows of the bass, and I could listen to the vibration of the chord. But it isn’t just the lows of bass. It is the highs, as I can clearly make out the hiss of the symbols being hit.
And that improves the quality of the sound stage, giving extra quality to the depth of the music.
Sony WH-1000XM5 build quality & comfort
The Sony WH-1000XM5 has a plastic finish, making it look a bit cheap. The finish is good through. I think comfort is more important. Can I wear these headphones for several hours a day? The answer is yes. They have a comfortable headband and plastic around the headphones.
Value for money
The headphones are not cheap, even if they are on promotion. However, if you enjoy listening to music via headphones or earphones regularly and can afford these headphones, you should seriously consider buying them.
